How do I start tracking habits with Habi?+

Getting started takes under 2 minutes. Sign up for a free account, choose your first habit (or pick from our templates), and check it off at the end of the day. That's it. We recommend starting with just 1โ€“3 habits to build consistency before adding more.

How many habits should I start with?+

Start with 1โ€“3 habits maximum. This isn't being lazy โ€” it's being strategic. Research consistently shows that people who start with fewer habits have significantly higher 6-month consistency rates. You can always add more habits once your initial ones become automatic.

Do I need to download an app?+

Habi works fully in your browser โ€” no download required. You can add it to your home screen on iOS or Android for a native app-like experience. A dedicated mobile app is planned for late 2026.

What are the best habits to start with?+

The best first habit is one you can do in under 5 minutes and are almost certain to do every day. Examples: drink one glass of water when you wake up, do 5 push-ups before your shower, read one page before bed. Browse our templates library for proven starting points.

What is a micro-habit?+

A micro-habit is a scaled-down version of a habit that's so small it feels trivially easy. Instead of "exercise for 30 minutes," a micro-habit might be "do 1 push-up." The goal isn't the micro-habit itself โ€” it's building the identity and behavior pattern. Once you do 1 push-up every day, doing 10 or 30 becomes natural.

What happens when I miss a day?+

Your streak resets, but your history doesn't disappear. Missing a day is normal โ€” the critical rule is: never miss twice in a row. One missed day is an accident. Two missed days is the start of a new (bad) habit. Habi shows your "never miss twice" record to help reframe how you think about occasional misses.

How long does it actually take to form a habit?+

The popular "21 days" myth is just that โ€” a myth. Research (notably by Phillippa Lally) found that it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic. The range is 18โ€“254 days depending on the complexity of the habit and the individual. Habi tracks your habit age to celebrate this milestones.

Can I track negative habits (habits to break)?+

Yes! In Habi, you can create "avoid" habits โ€” things you want to stop doing. You check in at the end of the day to confirm you avoided the behavior. Instead of framing it as failure, Habi reframes bad habits as competing with good ones you're building in their place.

Is my habit data private?+

Absolutely. Your habit data is encrypted and private by default. We never sell your data or show ads. You can export all your data at any time in CSV or PDF format. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days.

Can I use Habi on multiple devices?+

Yes, Habi syncs across all your devices automatically. Sign in on any browser and your habits, streaks, and history are all there waiting for you.

Can I export my habit data?+

Pro and Team plan users can export their full habit history as CSV or PDF. Free plan users can export the last 7 days of data. Your data is yours โ€” we believe strongly in data portability.

Is Habi really free?+

Yes, the free plan is genuinely free โ€” no trials, no credit card, no hidden fees. You can track up to 5 habits, maintain streaks, and set daily reminders at no cost, forever. The Pro plan adds analytics, unlimited habits, and more advanced features for serious habit builders.

Can I cancel my Pro plan at any time?+

Yes, cancel any time from your account settings โ€” no questions asked, no cancellation fees. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period, then reverts to the free plan. Your habit history is preserved.

Do you offer student or non-profit discounts?+

Yes! Students and verified non-profits receive 50% off the Pro plan. Email us at hello@touristnavigationassistant.com with proof of status and we'll apply the discount within 24 hours.

What's the science behind Habi's approach?+

Habi is built on three evidence-based frameworks: BJ Fogg's Tiny Habits (start small, use emotion), James Clear's Atomic Habits (identity-based habits, environment design), and the Habit Loop (cue-routine-reward from Charles Duhigg). All core features are designed around these principles.

Why does Habi emphasize consistency over intensity?+

Behavioral research consistently shows that frequency of repetition โ€” not session length โ€” is the primary driver of automaticity (when a behavior becomes a habit). A 2-minute daily practice beats a 2-hour weekly session every time for building lasting habits. Habi's design reinforces daily repetition above all else.
